about

The year is 2045, and the initiative has begun. The melding of the human mind and consciousness through AI brain emulation is now commonly being used. This technology is used to backup, upgrade, and transplant each and every human individual’s mind via advanced robotics technology.

These advances in technology have changed the lives of so many. By allowing the human body to nearly become obsolete as when one begins to fail, you can simply choose another “vessel.” You then back up the old, update the new, and get back to your daily routine.

Johnathan Winters never wanted the “upgrade.” They had always refused the entire idea of it until, out of his control, a nearly fatal car crash left him in a coma, and the choice was no longer his. Vanessa, Johnathan’s ex-wife, knew full and well how he felt about the merging of man and machine. This was due to his anger when she first went to be upgraded during their marriage.

This sent Jonathan into a spiral he never recovered from, nor did the marriage. He felt he didn’t even know his own wife anymore, who at one time agreed with him on the right to keep human and robot separate.

Her decision drove Jonathan to drink, which only brought out the worst in him, and eventually, she had enough. While in a coma, Vanessa clings to one frail sliver of hope that just maybe, if she made the decision for him, he would awake from this coma as a new man with a fresh outlook. An outlook that could be manipulated and upgraded in just a few clicks.

After the transplant, Jonathan returns to the waking world from his coma only to realize he has become the one thing he fought against for so long. What Vanessa didn’t know, is there may have been more to his hesitation than just a moral or ethical decision, but more uncertainty of compatibility. What if not every human is made or even compatible to be merged with a machine?

What if she just unknowingly unlocked one of the darkest and dangerous rooms within Jonathan’s mind unlike any terror she’s ever imagined.
